After a fun game of swimming to the islands we heard the story of Jesus spending time alone with God and then miraculously walking on the water to his disciples. They were on the lake, at first terrified to see a figure coming towards them! Jesus called out, ‘take courage! It is me. Don’t be afraid’. Peter wanted to go to Jesus and Jesus said ‘come’. Peter got out of the boat and walked to him on the water! We know he looked at his surroundings and began to sink but Jesus saved him and they both climbed into the boat.
The children acted out the story with some handy props – probably no giant fish, octopus or Bob the builder were to be found in the original story though. The children then made a fun picture which included sticks to move Jesus, the boat and Peter on the water.
Think about: Peter was brave enough to jump out of the boat. Do you think you would have done? What might Jesus be asking you to be brave about? Think about some things that the disciples learnt about Jesus and what he was teaching them through all the different miracles he performed.
