Talking to God

This Sunday, we started by playing a game where we matched big fancy words like ‘discombobulated’ and ‘grandiloquent’ to their simple meanings. Then we learned how to pray!

We read about how the Pharisees would pray out loud in the middle of the street using the biggest, most important words they could think of – not to get closer to God, but to make ordinary people think they were super holy. But Jesus taught people to pray like they’re talking to someone they love.

Putting our prayer into practice, we used post it notes to write short ‘thank you’ or ‘please’ prayers to God. If there were things we needed to say sorry for, we (mostly) drew a heart, knowing that God hears even our silent prayers, loves us and wants to forgive us when we ask.

To help us to pray at home, we made prayer pockets with some sentence starters: ‘I thank you for…’, ‘Please help me with…’, ‘I’m worried about…’, ‘Please forgive me for…’

This week: use your prayer pockets to pray for something different every day. If there’s something you want to pray about that doesn’t match any of the sentences, make your own and add it to the pocket!
