This week we started a new series, Encounters with Jesus. We’ll be learning about individuals and groups that met Jesus, the impact he had on their lives, and what we can learn from them.
Yesterday we met Nicodemus. He was a Pharisee, but didn’t hate Jesus like a lot of the other Pharisees did. He was curious about what Jesus was doing and wanted to know more, but was afraid of being seen with him. So he arranged to meet Jesus at nighttime so no one would see them together!
We don’t know much about what happened after their meeting, but we get a couple of glimpses of him later in the book of John. Nicodemus was one of the men who came to take Jesus’s body away for burial after he died, which would have been quite a risky thing for him to do.
From Nicodemus’s conversation with Jesus we learn that it’s good to ask questions when we’re curious about who Jesus is, but we might not always understand the answers he gives us!
We made secret, nighttime pictures of Nicodemus meeting with Jesus, along with John 3:16 – one of the most famous verses in the bible that Jesus spoke during their conversation!
