This week, we started a new series, Evan’s Child. We last did this series three years ago, so hopefully even the children who’ve done it before will get something different from it this time!
The series as a whole teaches us what it’s like to be a child of God, and our first session is recognising that God is a good father. We read the story of the prodigal son, and talked about how we are represented in the story by the son who thinks he knows best and end up getting himself into trouble. But God is pictured as the father, anxiously waiting for the return of the son he loves, and offering him an unexpected welcome when he arrives.
We made bookmarks that remind us that we’re each a child of God and that he loves us. And some of the children made a picture of the father waiting for his son’s return.
