Nigel continued our series on 'The Gospel in Isaiah' by speaking on Is 55:10-13. God transcends his creation, but he is deeply concerned with it, and intends its complete restoration. His powerful word accomplishes his will in the earthly realms, resulting in praise from the earth and eternal renown in the heavenly realms. None of God's words will return to him empty – least of all his greatest self-expression, the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ. Jesus 'emptied himself' to redeem fallen humanity (Phil 2:7-8), but has returned to the Father as the victorious King of all the Earth.
If the church is now called to represent our redeemer-King, how should we be speaking? How can we employ words of power that will not be judged 'empty' (Matt 12:36-37)?
