On Sunday, Nigel looked at Jesus’ unusual claim that he is the gate (John 10:1-10). Using his own experiences of airport immigration and the headline story about the Somali referee refused entry to the States for the World Cup, he explained that entry is down to the person on the gate, even if you have all the correct (or incorrect!) documents in place. Similarly, we can fall into the trap of believing that our own efforts and religious behaviours can get us through the gate to heaven. The passage in John, sees Jesus explaining to the Pharisees that he is the gate, he alone is the way, the truth and the life.
